About Me

ABOUT ME

In an era of spamming(90% of all emails), one is cautious about ‘telling all’ about oneself. Moreover, contents about oneself may be used for purposes one can scarcely imagine. Therefore , a personal sketch relevant to one’s given activity on the net may be more judicious; in this case about the writing background.

My ‘cacoethes scribendi’ – the itch to write, though started early in age, got a fillip when my guru and friend Late Mr U H S Karanth of Kundapura, India, took me under his tutelage. Though he himself was not one given to writing articles, he was a master of English grammar, vocabulary and structuring of  sentences. Even to this day, he is fondly remembered as the ‘Dictionary Man’ by his friends and fans alike.

It was my guru who helped me hone my English-writing skills besides providing me with necessary references. It was he who egged me on to write and publish articles in leading English Dailies of India. He told me, ” Humour is your forte. Stick to it.”  And I have been doing it so far.

Talking of humour, there is one more guru who drew me into to his orbit and held me steadfastly to this day: P G Wodehouse. I have been reading and re-reading him for the past 35 years and he left(and continues to do) an indelible mark on my psyche. Plum(as P G wodehose is fondly called) has been my saviour in times of stress and anxiety.

  1. Once again I realize behind every writer there is a teacher who inspired. I too have one such teacher. I try to do the same and sometimes much more, for my students. Your words have reminded me the necessity to motivate students. The positive comments from a sincere teacher could do a lot.
