To be blind is not miserable; not to be able to bear blindness, that is miserable – John Milton
Between November, 2007 and March, 2008, I was passing through a lean phase of my life on the personal front. A few infirmities needing surgery were brewing inside me of which most spirit-breaking was cataract in both eyes. In addition, for reasons beyond my control, I was forced into a life of solitude.
It was also the time I was bitten by the blog-bug. After a bit of research, I settled on a certain blog-host and started blogging. Mind you, I had to visit a cyber centre to do my postings.
There were a few things that were going agaimst me:
1) Progressively failing vision.
2) Being a greenhornin internet usage and blogging.
3) Growing melancholia.
Yet, by the end of March, 2008, I had posted 50 entries on varied subjects. At this stage, my vision deteriorated further with near-vision a virtual blur and distant-vision manageable with -5 spherical lens.
Between April-May, 2008, I underwent bilateral cataract surgery, plus three more for various infirmities. At the end of the ordeal, I was as good as new. But even during this period, the solitude followed me faithfully like the proverbial Mary’s Lamb.
I used my newfound spirit to start blogs with a new blog-host (Why new? See below) and picked up a few tricks in the book about blogging – so much so that I was even able to build a family website solely guided by the tutorial pages provided by the web-host.
You could say that, by then, it was Paradise Regained for me.
Resurrecting Pages from Past
At the time I came of my ‘hibernation’, My old blog-hosts had had suspended their operation ( a euphimism for going bust). Fortunately, they continue to host the pages on the net. So, I wished to ‘import’ the posts into the folds of a new host. Since direct import is not feasible from my old blog-host I am re-entering my posts one at a time, making improvement in the content wherever possible.
When I am done with this job which is sacrosanct for me, I plan to start a new blog on this platform titled, no prize for guessing, PARADISE REGAINED( with apologies to the master poet, John Milton).
